Accounting systems and financial modeling for growing businesses

Accounting systems, AP automation, and financial modeling for Denver SMBs — from outgrowing QuickBooks to month-end close you can trust

Get financial numbers you can act on, faster, and a system that holds up when the auditor or the bank asks questions. This is the work we know best: accounting information systems and the financial technology around them. We assess what you run today, design the controls and models you’re missing, and connect the pieces so close happens on schedule.

The problem we solve

Finance grows by accretion. You start in QuickBooks or a stack of spreadsheets, add a few workarounds, and one day the month-end close takes two weeks, reconciliations are done from memory, and nobody can consolidate two entities without copying numbers by hand. Then an audit flags weak controls and you find out how fragile the whole thing is.

Most small and mid-sized businesses don’t need a corporate finance department. They need a chart of accounts that makes sense, controls that survive an audit, and reports that tie out. That’s where we start.

Financial spreadsheet model with budgets and account balances

What we do

  • System selection and configuration — when you’ve outgrown QuickBooks, we help you choose what’s next and set up the general ledger (GL), sub-ledgers, and reporting so it fits how your business actually runs.
  • Chart of accounts (COA) design and migration — a standardized COA with a segment structure and reporting hierarchy that works across entities, plus a mapping plan to move history without losing it.
  • Accounts payable (AP) automation — invoice capture, three-way matching, and approval workflows so AP stops being a monthly fire drill and payments go out with a clear control trail.
  • Month-end close acceleration — find what’s slowing close, standardize the recurring entries and reconciliations, and shorten the cycle so you’re reporting in days, not weeks.
  • Financial modeling — budgets, forecasts, and scenario models that pull from your real ledger instead of stale exports.
  • Standard and cost accounting — set and maintain standard costs, build out variance analysis, and keep product costing current for manufacturers.
  • Multi-entity consolidation — consolidate across companies and currencies with intercompany eliminations that an auditor can follow.
  • Banking interfaces — bank-driver integrations and statement automation so cash positions and reconciliations stay current without manual entry.

We describe what frameworks ask for — Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), segregation of duties, and a documented audit trail — and we build toward an audit-ready posture. We don’t certify your books or sign off on your behalf; that’s your auditor’s job. Our work is making sure the system and the controls are in place to support it.

Working with the tools you already have

Plenty of businesses run finance in Excel, and it works until it doesn’t. Before we recommend ripping that out, we ask a simpler question: can we make what you have accurate and controlled?

Often the answer is yes. We extend your existing Excel models and connect them to a real database, so the formulas you trust pull from a single source instead of pasted exports. You keep the familiarity your team already has, and you gain version control, accuracy, and an audit trail underneath. When a model genuinely needs to move to a dedicated system, we’ll tell you — and we’ll plan that move so nothing breaks in the meantime.

Systems we work with

We’ve configured and integrated finance across a range of platforms:

  • QuickBooks — for businesses still on it, and for migrations off it.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial modules — QAD and Infor, including GL, AP/AR (accounts receivable), fixed assets, and cost accounting.
  • Enterprise performance management (EPM) and consolidation — OneStream, Hyperion Financial Management, and CCH Tagetik for planning, close, and multi-entity consolidation.
  • BlackLine — account reconciliation, cash application, and close management.
  • SAP Concur — travel and expense, including policy enforcement and ERP integration.
  • IFS — financials and project accounting.

If your stack isn’t listed here, the underlying work — COA design, reconciliations, controls, integration — carries over. The principles don’t change with the logo.

Who it’s for

  • A manufacturer or distributor that has outgrown QuickBooks, where standard costs are out of date and month-end close drags on longer every quarter.
  • A multi-entity business that can’t consolidate cleanly — copying numbers between companies, struggling with eliminations, or scrambling after an audit flagged weak reconciliations and controls.

If you recognize your business here — “close takes too long,” “our audit flagged controls,” “we can’t consolidate” — that’s the moment to call.

How we work

  1. Discovery. A free conversation about your current finance stack, your close process, and where the pain is.
  2. Assess. We map how money moves through your systems today and find the gaps in controls, reconciliations, and reporting.
  3. Design. A plan for the COA, controls, models, and integrations — sized to your budget, not a corporate template.
  4. Implement and integrate. We configure systems, build the models, connect the data, and migrate history with a clear cutover.
  5. Train and support. Your team learns the new process with documentation they can actually use, and we stay available as questions come up.

What to expect

We work in honest ranges, not guarantees. A focused project — AP automation, a COA redesign, or extending an Excel model onto a database — typically runs 3–8 weeks. A larger system selection, consolidation build, or close-acceleration effort runs longer and depends on how many entities and integrations are involved. We scope it with you up front so there are no surprise invoices.

  • [[ERP consulting]] — for the systems that run finance and operations together.
  • [[Data and BI]] — for the reporting and integration that connects finance to the rest of the business.
